Are cell phones really dangerous to use well pumping gas?

Is it true that it is actually dangerous to use a cell phone while pumping gas? No, it's a myth. Cell phones have never been proven to spark a fire at a gas station or to cause explosions. All reports of this have been anecdotal and never been proved. Even a recent report that a gasoline station fire was caused by a cell phone was retracted, stating that the fire was caused by static electricity from improper fueling by the customer.
